Question:
Can I get a DVI cable that is longer than 15ft (5m)?

Answer:
DVI standards state that the maximum distance that DVI supports is 15ft (5m). Resently, longer length DVI cables have been created and are availble on our web site. Please note that the supported resolution drops after 10 metres. A signal bootser may be required if to maximum resolution is needed at longer lengths. Please contact us for availability.

Question:
Can I connect my DVI-D video card (digital output only) to my VGA monitor, or can I connect my VGA video card to my DVI-D monitor (digital input only)?

Answer:
No, not without a converter. DVI-D is a digital signal only and VGA is analog only. The two can not speak the same language without a converter. There are some converters on the market, but are still very expensive, $300 and up. Until the price of the converters come down, you are much better off simply buying a new video card or a new monitor instead.

Question:
Can I connect my DVI-I video card to my VGA monitor, or can I connect my VGA video card to my DVI-I monitor?

Answer:
Yes. DVI-I means that either your monitor or video card can handle either an analog or digital signal. You will require a DVI-I to VGA cable. Please have a look at our listings.

Question:
What is the difference between RGB and (Y,Cr,Cb) or (Y,Pr,Pb)?

Answer:
The difference between RGB and (Y,Cr,CB)/(Y,Pr,Pb) is in the colour separation and total bandwidth. Actually, (Y,Cr,CB)/(Y,Pr,Pb) was invented to take the place of RGB, in order to save on total bandwidth requirements.

The Y in (Y,Cr,CB)/(Y,Pr,Pb) carries the "white" or luminance plus full horizontal resolution. The (Cr,CB)/(Pr,Pb) carries only half the horizontal resolution.

RGB separates the video signal into Red, Green, Blue, Horizontal and Vertical sync (RGBHV). When a device only has three connections (RGB) vertical and horizontal sync are carried on the green cable. This is referred to as RGB, sync on green.

Question:
What is the difference between(Y,Cr,CB) and (Y,Pr,Pb)?

Answer:
Technically, the term (Y,CB,Cr) is used for devices using a digital signal, and (Y,Pb,Pr) is for devices using an analog, although is is not always true because the terms are often substituted for the other by various manufacturers.
